U Street just got a new four-level American bistro. It’s called Hawthorne (1336 U Street) and you can now enjoy locally-sourced ingredients, fresh seafood and other delectable entrees.
Dine at Hawthorne to enjoy the 6,500 square-foot space, featuring a bar on each level and a retractable glass roof with a 360-degree view of the Washington skyline.
Executive chef Dot Steck crafted the menu that includes dishes like garlic braised chicken, salt cod croquettes, truffled cheddar cheeseburger and jumbo lump crab cakes. Hawthorne’s mussel bar features eight distinct flavors, from Cajun-influenced to Asian-inspired, served at half price every day during happy hour. Each mussel entrée is served with a fresh baguette, house-made duck fat French fries and garlic aioli.
